Written by NetBear on April 11, 2008 – 5:35 am -According to Entertainment Weekly, Matthew McConaughey has been offered the role of Thomas Magnum in the Magnum P.I. movie.
Magnum P.I. ran from 1980 - 1988 and starred Tom Selleck as a Navy Seal turned detective in Hawaii. While we love Mattey and know he’s a natural beach bum, there’s one crucial factor missing from his Magnum… (In Church Lady voice) Umm… Could it be… FUR!?
See all that hair on Tom Selleck’s beefy leg? McConaughey is gonna need to step-up the testosterone and make with a lot more body hair to satisfy our hirsute tastes.
Then there’s the chest hair. Tom Selleck was known for his thick locks of ample chest hair that would peek out of the top of his shirts. Matthew Mcconaughey is sorely lacking the fur in this area too. Yum… That’s so hot we need to see a bit more furry Tom Selleck chest.
That’s what we’re talkin’ about! chest hair you can run your fingers through! And then there’s one thing, above all, that defined the Thomas Magnum we all know and love:
That big, lip-covering Tom Selleck mustache! Now granted that Matthew Mcconaughey has the blond guy facial hair thing going on most of the time. And we really do dig that look too. But people, this is Magnum P.I., not some surfer dude who rescues the damsel in distress from getting sand kicked in her face. This is the big, handsome guy with a sense of humor that gave us a mainstream masculine role model at a time when the bear movement was still virtually unknown.
Give me fur or give me… Well, you get the picture.

Awesome and entertaining post and sexy photos! Matthew is definitely completely wrong in regards to physical casting for Selleck’s Magnum P.I. Selleck’s character is iconic not just to the pop culture world but to us bear lovers as well — and, yes, he completely defines “bearotic.”
Tom Selleck is definitely an inimitable character. His P.I. had a uniquely magnetic charisma who was also very comfortable with his body. Furry chest, arms, and legs are just everywhere and that thick moustache is as iconic as Indiana Jones’ brown fedora.
But if I had total control over the casting, I will have a hard time as I can’t think of anyone who could pull of Selleck’s Magnum. However, I will definitely cast Patrick Warburton instead. Patrick has the height, the furry body, and a similar sense of humor. Of course, he will need work done on the moustache, eyebrow, and leg hair department. Other than that, he’ll be perfect, in my opinion.

I agree with what the poster above said!!! There is no way Matthew McConaughey looks at all like classic Tom Selleck!!Surely they can find a actor who has a hairy chest,body etc that looks like Tom Selleck?

All I have to say is, if they cast Matthew McConaughey as Magnum PI, then you are ruining the movie from the start! Never mind whether he looks like Tom Selleck, which he can’t even hold a candle to, by the way, but he would be the worst possible choice of an actor to play that roll! please find someone else!

Looks like McConaughey is a non-starter as of last year. Whew!
The search for the new Magnum continues! He’d just better have an awesome ’stache!
