Al was the stereotypical bear with his beard, plaid shirts and chunky bod. But did you know that in the series Al had a secret twin brother named Cal?
The story goes that Keith Lehman contacted ABC and told them about his close resemblance to Richard Karn. When they saw his picture the writers were so knocked out by it that they wrote him in as Al’s twin for an episode. Al and Cal were shown to be quiet twins who discussed their differences over a cup of tea in a civil manner… That is, until they started arguing over which was the best kind of tea and ended up scrapping on the floor!
Mmm, who wouldn’t wanna be the meat in an Al and Cal sandwich?

Richard, or is it Al did an ad campaign for Hillshire Farms. Here he is seen presenting his favorite fat wieners and plump buns to an unsuspecting world!
Oh my! Freud would have a field day with this one! Who could miss the phallic symbolism of Richard/Al pointing that wiener towards his mouth, tongue slightly out ready to lick and savor?

and… how can you know that he wasn´t/isn´t gay? Oh! please, i´m joking only. By the way, can´t a bear be gay? Last time i simply thought, a bear is “a kind of” gay, perhaps dissimulating as “a kind of macho man” (what´s ´macho man´ really, ah ha?). I´d like to be enlightened, although having no prejudice; what matters is one being nice, honest, discreet, sincere, friendly, and preferentially handsome, attractive, lovely. Regards to all.

We were just joking with the comments about Richard’s gayness or not-gayness.
Yes, a man who we might class as a bear may or may not be gay. We agree with your thoughts about the importance of being nice, honest etc. As for handsomeness and attractiveness, it’s all in the eye of the beholder. Everyone is handsome and attractive in some way we think.

I met Mr. Karn in person about 5 years ago, chatted with him a bit and shook his hand. And guess what? He’s *F-IN’ GORGEOUS* in person… seriously, that old saying about folks not looking so great in person does NOT apply to Mr. Richard Karn. Plus he’s super friendly and has velvety soft hands - really, he does! He’s known about his Bear-fans for years, and seems cool with it. Jeezus I’ll bet those soft firm furry hands of his would feel great on my skin…

Geez I met Richard about 15 years ago, he did an autograph signing and picture taking at the new mall at the time here in Taunton, ma. Didnt get to chat really, he had alot of fans waiting but what time we did have he was a very sweet person. Hope he gets a new series soon!!

Yesss!!!!!! Richard Karn is H.O.T. as hell: And from what I have heard about him, Hes a really personable guy, whos more than aware of his Bear - Lust status, and is quite humble and flattered too…A seemingly solid guy, ohhh yeah, and hot as hell too….Didnt I just say that??

You know, I think Richard was my first bear crush. I grew up on Home Improvement when it actually aired, and still watched the reruns for years after.
I later learned Tim Allen is pretty bearish too, but Tim Taylor got on my nerves. I always “felt sorry” for Al for putting up with him.
It’s really cool that he knows about us and doesn’t mind. I am always glad to see him on TV.
