Little Mosque On The Prairie Has Bears To Spare
Written by BignFuzzy on May 19, 2008 – 2:34 pm -If you live in Canada or can receive CBC television then you might have seen an interesting series called Little Mosque On The Prairie. It’s a comedy about the lives of a Muslim community in the prairie town of Mercy. It is perhaps a little too “edgy” for some. But hey, there’s some nice bear eye candy to look at and we’re always up for some of that!

You’ve got L to R, Neil Crone, Carlo Rota and Manoj Sood, all playing totally different types of characters but with one thing in common: Fuzzy chops and a high cuteness quota. Oh yeah, that’s two things.
Neil Crone is Fred Tupper, a local in his forties, who is the town of Mercy’s own Rush Limbaugh. Fred uses his daily radio talk show, ‘Wake-up People’, to fuel people’s suspicions about the growing Muslim community. If accused of intolerance, Fred would claim he only says things people don’t like to hear. No one would disagree with that! Fred describes himself a textbook libertarian: like most bigots. In person, Fred’s polite, and has a rough charm.

Carlo Rota plays the character Yasir Hamoudi, a Lebanese Canadian in his forties. Yasir is the de facto head of the community and runs his construction company out of the Mercy Mosque. His life is a balance between the secular and the spiritual. He tries really, really hard not to be greedy, selfish, dishonest, and shifty. He really, really does. He adores his wife, his daughter, and his community. He respects all the teachings of his Muslim faith, as far as he has bothered to learn them.

And last but not least, Manoj Sood plays Baber Siddiqui, a Pakistani-Canadian in his fifties who is an economics professor at a nearby college. He’s all for diversity and tolerance, as long as it is completely on his terms. Baber is considered the one true spiritual leader of the community and defender of the faith - by Baber. He is the community’s most conservative Muslim, but still can’t help voting Liberal in civic elections.
