Aldo Ray — Furry And Proud
Written by BignFuzzy on June 2, 2008 – 12:07 pm -Most times in older movies when a guy took off his shirt you got to see a sterile shaved smooth chest. After all, we don’t want to upset the ladies do we? It’s been said that if you show a smooth naked butt, it’s art. Show a hairy butt and it becomes porn. People are afraid of the masculine sexual energy of body hair. Not so with Aldo Ray. He wore his pelt with pride.

Here Aldo throws some attitude in The Naked And The Dead, Raoul Walsh’s adaptation of Norman Mailer’s lurid war novel.

Here’s another shot of Aldo playing Sgt. Croft from The Naked And The Dead.
Mr. Ray excelled in combat movie roles. It was easy for him to portray gritty, masculine soldiers, sometimes on the brink of losing it. He acted next to John Wayne in The Green Berets and James Whitmore in Battle Cry
. In the 1957 movie Men In War
Aldo Ray plays a sergeant who’s dedicated to protecting his beloved colonel at all costs.

Aldo has a sensitive, warm and fuzzy look in Men In War.
But that’s not the only genre Aldo worked in. In this still from a 60’s Alpha Bits commercial Aldo played a macho construction worker. Mmm, handsome in that old-school, all-American way.

From this early photo of Aldo we can see that he got the body hair gene. Even as a young pup he had full frontal fur.

Here’s Aldo in a whacky 60s movie called Riot On Sunset Strip. You just gotta love the bad go-go dancing and the Mick Jagger impersonator. It’s wonderful 60s schlock!
Fans remember Aldo as the man with a hard face and a tender heart. He appeared in many movies over the decades, often bearing some chest for his admirers. Check out the titles and have your own Aldo-fest.
