It’s time for another Bear Or Not. In this ongoing series we present for your contemplation a woofy guy we’ve seen in the media. But we just can’t decide. Is he a bear or is he not? Read on and then you decide for us with a comment.

Actor Peter Sarsgaard may look familiar to you. He has played many diverse roles over the years, from the homophobic thug in Boys Don’t Cry to the sensitive bisexual Clyde Martin in Kinsey.

Sometimes he’s got whiskers, sometimes not. He’s always got that hairy chest though, with the happy trail leading down below the waistline as can be seen in this still from The Mysteries Of Pittsburgh. The movie is about a love triangle between a woman, a gay man and a bisexual man.

Peter Sarsgaard In The SnowPeter got his first break back in 1995 with a guest spot in Law & Order. His film career began with Dead Man Walking, playing one of the murder victims. After that he played many small parts in several low-budget indie films.

In 1999 Sarsgaard first gained critical recognition for his role in Boys Don’t Cry, a movie about a biological female who identifies and lives life as a male. He plays the role of John Lotter, who ultimately becomes one of the tormentors in the plot. The movie drew critical acclaim despite being a relatively low budget production.

Ultimately the phone started ringing for Sarsgaard. He got a plum role along side Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie Jarhead, based on Marine Anthony Swofford’s best-selling 2003 book about his pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and about his experiences fighting in Kuwait.

OK. Now we know that some guys judge a man by what he’s got downstairs. With Sarsgaard we’re in luck. In the movie Kinsey he did a full-monty for the audience. Here’s the naked truth… Well, as naked as we get on Bearotic. If you wanna see the whole enchilada you’d better get the movie! let’s just say that it is exactly as Kinsey stated it should be. ;)

Now wouldn’t that scene be so much nicer if he had his beard grown in like this?

Über fans of Peter Sarsgaard swear by this 8×10 photo of his furry face. If you’re a definitive fan, you just gotta have one. It’s suitable for the nightstand, kitchen, livingroom or anywhere you need to get a little Peter inspiration. ;)

So we’ve presented the evidence. Now it’s your turn. After all, beardom is all in the eye of the bear-holder. Do you think Peter is a bear or not? We’ve just got to know! Vote your conscience and post a comment below.

I say yes, actaully if you go thru the Old Bear Magazines, this was exactly what the definition of bear was. It wasnt about weight, size, muscles, belleis, etc.. It was MASCULINITY WITH OUT THE TRAPPINGS. and natural men, with furr..body and face! Its VERY different now!

Bear potential, but currently a Cub.

He needs more bulk to be a Bear.

Let’s not forget the amazing Dying Gaul where he plays a gay writer in Los Angeles. WOOF!

I would put him in the Cub category for now — a bit too bulky to be an Otter, but not bulky enough for full Bear status. In terms of being masculine, fearless, and sexy, yes! He’s definitely an icon of the Bear community, whichever subcategory you want to place him in. So when does he get his cover on A Bear’s Life?

    Not a bear, a cub.
