FeedBear Model Storms Milan Runways
Written by NetBear on June 27, 2008 – 3:11 pm -The fashion industry is abuzz with the news that designer Vivienne Westwood sent a bear model down the runway in her recent Milan fashion show. So much for starving skinny boys in fashion. Let the bears take over!
The model’s name is Sergio Lo Re who’s an actor and bodyguard turned fashion model. But what people didn’t realize at first was that there is much more than just a bear-necessities in this fashion statement. There was a heavy dose of politics involved.
According to Q-Magazine this wasn’t anti-skinny statement or a daddybear fetish run-amok on the runway. Vivienne Westwood showed this collection, with these specific models, in Milan to stir-up political controversy.
What the American media has failed to see about this bear event is that it wasn’t simply an act of artistic rebellion or edginess. It was a dramatic political statement about the treatment of gypsies in Italian cities.
The designer wanted to protest against the decisions of the new government of Berlusconi. They want to kick-out the gypsies from Italy. European governments and their citizens have protested this. Designer Westwood decided to present her own kind of protest. The jewelry, the fashion, the model, everything was part of the statement.
Westwood acknowledged that the menswear collection, designed for the most part by her husband Andreas Kronthaler, was intended to make people think about their ethics.

He’s definitely do-able. I’d love to see the scene backstage when they were perking up his nips for his appearance. Cute face, sexy bod and a great political statement.

I hope the fashion industry doesn’t just see it as an anomaly. This could be the start of a beautiful new trend: men of fashion that actually look like real men!
