Hollywood Fuzz: Matt Damon Gets Chubby For The Informant
Written by NetBear on June 29, 2008 – 5:23 am -The man named as The Sexiest Man Alive by People Magazine has really gotten into a recent role for the new Steven Soderbergh movie The Informant.

That’s Matt Damon with a fuzzy chest, some extra poundage and a kiss-tickling mustache. Looking like a cubbish bear at a swim party, all of a sudden we can look at Matt with a totally new Bearotic gaze!
The Informant is a thriller that takes place in Central Illinois during the early 1990’s. So no wonder Matt had to get into character with the ’stache and beefy bod.

It has been well documented when actors change their body types for a particular screen role. Instead of going to the gym to get buffed, they go on a body-altering regime to put on the pounds. In the reverse situation actors have gone on fasting diets to become emaciated thin. Eek! We’re glad in this case Matt is getting hefty, Hefty, HEFTY… Not wimpy, Wimpy, WIMPY.

Hawaii Five-OOOOHH! That light, blondish ’stache looks a little thin. But perhaps Mr. Damon is genetically challenged that way. That or his make-up artist had strict guidelines to make it that way to augment the way we perceive Matt’s character.

In the film Matt plays the role of Mark Whitacre, a high-level executive turned whistleblower, who suffered from manic-depression and bipolar disorder. Due to the pressure of working for the FBI he has a meltdown resulting in some bizarre behavior. The longer he works undercover, the wackier he gets. It’s sort of the soft-spoken, intelligent guy gone over the edge story. Hey!? That’s a bit like the premise of the Bourne movies, right?

Without the mustache and in shirt and tie Matt loses a few bear factor points. But the extra pounds still keeps him well over the line. But, umm… Will somebody tell Matt that he doesn’t need to be drinking diet soda if he wants to put on the pounds?

Here’s some video of Matt on the set filming The Informant.
We kind of like the Rugby-ready, super-sized Matt. We’ll have to enjoy it while we can. It will be sad to see him shed the pounds once shooting of the movie has wrapped.

I think the extra pounds will help him seem different then he does in this role which in many ways has some similarities to other types of characters he’s played.
