Angeltatts Takes The Brady Bunch In A Whole New Direction
Written by NetBear on July 12, 2008 – 5:03 am -At first take you might think you were seeing the familiar three-by-three character grid from the Brady Bunch television show. But at second glance it looks like Alice has some new neighbors!

New York artist Angeltatts combined classic 70’s television with retro gay culture by replacing the Brady family with some of his favorite classic adult movie stars. Of course Alice fits in no matter what the situation is.
But there’s more to Angel’s art than just this one image.
If you’re on the east coast some of Angel’s imagery may look familiar to you. He’s done art for several leather and bear events in New York.

We thought we’d ask Angel some questions to help us get to know the artist and where his inspiration comes from. And while we’re at it, here are the full body illustrations of some of those retro hunks from the Brady Bunch Squares. Even with the twigs and berries woofed-out, you can see how Angel has managed to capture the animal magnetism that made each of these guys a star.

Where do you get your inspiration for your artwork?
Most of my recent artwork is inspired by “classic” gay male porn. Considering that most of what you see here is a series of portraits of retro-porn actors (most of whom, sadly, are no longer with us) I guess it is pretty obvious where my inspiration comes from. In some ways I guess my portraits have a kind of religious icon feel to them which can be linked to the fact that I see a lot of these guys as almost martyrs to sexual liberation.

What medium do you work in?
These days practically everything I do is digital art, although I did start with an inked line drawing for most of these drawings. I also do some photography and tattooing (the real kind that hurts and is permanent) as well!

Where do you want to take your art? Or… where is your art taking you?
I want to see my work in galleries someday in the foreseeable future. Perhaps if I am lucky maybe even a museum or two someday! Reach for the stars, eh?

What’s next for you?
I have plans for series of works which are all linked by themes or subject matter. My work will most likely remain very illustrative in style for the foreseeable future and will most likely remain very much homo erotic in nature. Of course what the reality of it all will end up being is anyone’s guess. I would like to get into my photography a bit more vigorously in the near future. The interaction and communication between the model and the photographer through the simultaneously distancing and bond-forming camera lens is very appealing to me now.
