James Robertson Justice — Classic Scottish Bear? Aye Lad, He Was!
Written by BignFuzzy on July 18, 2008 – 5:07 am -James Robertson Justice was another of those British actors that caught my eager young eye as I searched for manly men on TV and in film.

Of Scottish descent, James was born in London and had one of those more “proper” slightly clipped Public School English accents. But he delivered it in a loud assertive manner that made a young man think “Ooh, Daddy!”
With red hair, green eyes and a short stocky build, James’ beady-eyed stare and brusque nature made him perfect for the roles he played. Having ogled at him through various movies I began to notice a pattern emerging. Many scenes seemed to happen with James either in a bed or on one talking to a bed ridden person. Now, I wasn’t complaining. James could come and sit on my spread anytime he liked!
Here’s James in one of his famous doctor movies checking out an ailing chubby chappy who seems to be quietly admiring his bewhiskered caregiver.

More bedside manner as James shares a wee illicit dram with an old Scottish geezer in Whiskey Galore.

Another bed scene as James tears the covers off Stanley Baxter and gives his exposed bum a good hard slap in the dubiously titled movie Father Came Too!
It’s James’ turn to take to his bed as a grumpy invalid in Agatha Christie’s Murder She Said. Nice jim-jams James!

All these beds just can’t be a coincidence. James relaxes on a bed as he listens to the escape plan in Very Important Person. There’s a nice sturdy belly under that sweater!

Yet another bed scene. Finally we get to see James’ hairy chest and round bear belly! What’s he saying to the hesitant young man? What springs to my mind is “Come on man! Don’t dilly-dally! If you’re going to do this there’s no point in being shy. Get your hand under there and give it a damn good shaking!”

James would be referring to checking to see if his bedpan needed emptying of course! (ahem!)
Grow the hair a little, add some peroxide to the ginger locks and you’ve got a great Little John! The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men was a rare early appearance in color for James.

A typical saucy pic from the movie Doctor In Distress. Caption it? No way, I’m not even gonna touch this one!

Here’s a very handsome promotional picture of James early in his acting career.

Though James didn’t speak with a Scottish accent, he was very proud of his Scottish heritage. Here he is in his family tartan looking every inch a Scottish bear.
If your intrigued by this burly ol’ Brit and want to know more about his life (And there’s a lot to know!) check out the new book about him. Lots of pictures and stories regaling the man’s unbelievably varietal life!

I know I’ll be buying a copy. I haven’t had enough of James Robertson Justice just yet!

Gorgeous with great sex appeal. Almost as good looking as the currently well known Italian journalist GIULIANO FERRARA. Wow. Take a look at this hefty, furry male on the internet. He’s the best.

A great story about Justice I recently read. In the early 1960’s, a British journalist went to interview the fellow at his hotel suite. He knocked, Justice bellowed “enter!” and when the poor scribe entered, he was confronted by the sight of his interviewee spread-eagled on the bed, stark naked “save for a silver hip flask of whiskey nested in the silver hairs of his chest.”
You get the feeling it was a short interview . . .

I love Gerard Butler, the glorious Scot…Why am I saying this on J.R. Justice’s page? Well, I loved Robertson as King Henry VIII and as Little John in the Disney moviies with Richard Todd(who I also like)…Well, I was looking at this website, and I noticed the resemblance between Gerard and James. If Gerard aged twenty-five years or so..and gained a girth..they’re very much alike. Very manly, handsome, and with a twinkle in their sexy eyes. Anyone else agree?

It wasn’t until the “The Story of Robin Hood and his Merry Men” that I reocognized James Justice! I had a mad crush on him as a kid from this movie! It’s a sad loss to loose him!
