Bear Rescues Cub — For Real!
Written by BignFuzzy on July 22, 2008 – 3:17 pm -Adam Deem is a forester with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. As Adam was driving through burned brush in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest in California he spotted a black bear cub in the middle of the road. Stopping his truck, he noticed that the cub was injured. The poor cub had singed fur, an injured eye and it’s paws were very badly burned.

Adam decided to help the little feller. Not easy! Unlike the bears we know, these kind of bears are wild and don’t want to be manhandled. Fending off the bites and scratches Adam managed to get the cub he named Smokey Jr. to base camp for some medical help. Adam held the hurt cub as the medics tended his injuries. “He licked my neck a little bit and gave me little kisses,” said Adam.
Awww! Cute!

Lil’ Smokey gets tended to at the Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care

“Can I has picnic basket? Me hungry.”

The little guy gets some well deserved rest after being rescued.

Hope those ouchy-paws get better real soon, little guy.
Here’s Lil’ Smokey’s story as told by Todd Millham of Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care. Don’t watch if you’re squeamish about seeing burned cub paws.

And Smkey Jr, wouldn’t be the only one giving the ranger little kisses if the readership had it’s way…
