Drag Queens Storm Project Runway
Written by NetBear on August 21, 2008 – 11:24 am -Did you get a chance to watch the Project Runway Drag Queen Challenge we told you about? As anticipated, it was indeed the most fabulous episode ever. Going clockwise from the upper-left diva that’s Farrah Moans, Miss Understood, Annida Greenkard, Sweetie, Acid Betty and the irrepressible Varla Jean Merman.

Bet you want to know who won. If you aren’t going to watch the episode, click through and see photos of everyone and the outfit that won. But if you ARE going to watch the show, don’t click through or you’ll discover which glamazon model showed everyone who put “back” back on the runway.
We can’t have a competition without first showcasing all the outfits that made the Drag Queen Challenge. First in the lineup was Farrah Moans wearing a liquid silver classic dress from a bygone era.

Described by Tim Gunn as “a pterodactyl from a gay Jurrasic Park,” Miss Understood really stood out in an outfit that matches her neon personality.

Varla Jean Merman cranked it up a notch wearing a nautical themed jumpsuit that screamed Love Boat.

Luisa Verde looked like a matron on the edge in black and plaid.

Hedda Lettuce worked her leafy green mini for the camera.

Annida Greenkard looked Flamenco in a breezy pink and yellow dress.

Acid Betty went all samurai and turned Japanese inspired on us.

According to Michael Kors, LeMay evoked a good Bar Mitzvah day in a sequined green dress.

Sweetie was one hot dish in a red and yellow outfit with a removable skirt.

Sherry Vine worked her inner Tina in a fringy frock.

Finally Sharon Needles folds a lot of style into her pleated dress.

So there you have it! But who’s gonna be able to judge this challenge? That’s easy… Get one drag queen extraordinaire… namely none other than that super drag goddess herself, Rupaul!

Which outfit from this bunch best represents the style and character of the larger than life diva wearing it? I think you can probably guess from my comment about somebody having “back” earlier.
In a pink pantsuit designed by Joe Faris that screamed Ann-Margret on the Love Boat (on steroids), the outfit worn by Varla Jean Merman won the Drag Queen Challenge on Project Runway.

And what ASSet really stood out for the judges? Baby’s got back!

When told by judges Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum that she has a terrific figure in that outfit, Varla Jean giggles and says, “You’re not the first person who’s told me that.” You go Varla!

If you thought that making this episode was probably like herding cats, you got it right. Here’s a behind the scenes look at the making of the Drag Queen Challenge and why it was a big challenge for the producers.
Drag queens don’t have access to modern technology…
OK. I’ve got that out of my system. But wasn’t this a lot of fun?? Come on, admit it.

That was the best challenge they have done in 5 seasons. They should do that one every season!

To quote Christian from last season, that sure was one hot tranny mess! I agree that they should do a drag challenge every season.

I love Varla, it’s great that she (and the other queens) got the exposure on such a popular TV show.

This is my first season of watching project runway. That drag queen series was so much fun to watch. The pink jumpsuit and the red flame dress were the hottest!! After watching this season, I”m officially addicted to this show and cannot wait to get my fix every week.
