100% BEEF Magazine Releases 40th Edition
Written by NetBear on December 17, 2008 – 5:49 am -100% BEEF Magazine, the successor to the now-defunct Bear Magazine, has just released it’s 40th Edition. To mark this occasion and signal the magazine’s exciting forward momentum, 100% BEEF has converted to a full-color format.

100% BEEF Magazine (NSFW) is a 64-page, bi-monthly magazine for adult readers that focuses on the identities and lifestyles of masculine-identified men and “bears.”

100% BEEF Magazine was launched in May, 2002 by a group of friends after their swift departure from the hugely popular, but poorly managed and now-defunct, original Bear Magazine. Excited to continue the publishing legacy, but also eager to broaden the definitions and masculine sexual identities which the Original Bear Magazine helped to popularize, co-publishers Scott McGillivray and Larry Woolwine forged a publishing alliance titled after the homoerotic term “beefcake.”

It was time.
– Editor and Co-publisher Scott McGillivray
When asked about the transition to full color, Editor and Co-publisher Scott McGillivray said, “Black and white was fun. It allowed us to transition from where we were, pay homage to our beginnings, and continue the aesthetic of the magazine from which we came pretty seamlessly.”
For die-hard fans of the black and white aesthetic which defined the beginnings of 100% BEEF Magazine, McGillivray offers, “We will still publish some black and white photography, from time to time. There’s a real beauty and fine-art aesthetic to black and white photography, which we appreciate and still embrace.”

Bear Magazine isn’t defunct–issue 65 was out this year, and issue 66 is due out in Feb/09.

The article talks about the *original* Bear Magazine.
That publication went out of business a while back.

I was one of the Free-lance Photographers for Brush Creek Media aka “Bear Magazine” When they went out of business and they stiffed a lot of people and not the good way. Free-lancers, models, printers etc were kicked to the curb.
How Bear can claim it is the same is beyond me. Make good and pay everyone with interest what is owed them. You can start with me first.
The staff that created Bear Magazine what it was back than was the true heart and is the heart of now of 100% Beef Magazine which is great!
Bear Magazine really should have just started a new mag, new name and should not have tried to bring back the dead. Let the first true bear magazine rest in piece.

Definitely sour grapes there. It wasn’t Bear Magazine who screwed people, it was specifically Bear Dog Hoffman of Brush Creek Media. When Brush Creek fell, so did all of it’s brands and magazines. I’m glad someone had the balls to bring it back from death. I just bought the latest issue and t’s nothing like it’s older counterpart. Finally, a quality Bear publication I enjoy looking at, especially with my pants wrapped around my ankles!
