Papaya Suzuki And The Oyagi Dancers
Written by NetBear on February 7, 2009 – 6:40 pm -Papaya Suzuki originally intended to be a singer. But he gave up due to a drastic gain in weight. Undaunted, he put together a group called the Oyaji Dancers. In Japanese oyaji is a faintly derogatory term “washed-up dad.” But it’s also used for middle-aged men in general.

Now Papaya is a well-known celebrity in Japan, most famous for his dancing and for his afro hairstyle. He also works as an actor, a lyricist, and a songwriter, as well as arranging and producing music.

The Oyaji team: Papaya Suzuki, Nakajima Jutemu, Otsu Nenkintecho, Hasegawa 16t and Matumoto Dokan.
The idea of Oyaji Dancers was originated from Papaya Suzuki when he wondered what it would be like to gather a team of fat, middle-age men or skinny, wimpy looking men that lead normal working lives, and have them all dance together. The result is the hugely popular Oyaji Dancers.
Here they are on Japanese TV playing to their primary fanbase, teenage girls!
The Oyaji Dancers are out to win hearts with their heartbreaking ballets, outrageous dance steps and unmatched energy. Like all pop stars, their popularity in Japan has waned over time. But Suzuki keeps the unit going, hoping to take the show abroad.
