Hayao Miyazaki’s Ponyo Releasing This Summer
Written by NetBear on March 24, 2009 – 2:21 pm -I’m a big fan of Hayao Miyazaki, the Walt Disney of modern Japanese animation. So of course I’m really stoked to hear that Disney Pictures has announced that Miyazaki-san’s latest film, Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea will hit American theaters on August 14th, 2009.

It’s the story of a 5-year-old boy that finds a goldfish princess who longs to become human. Pixar has been working with Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli to make the summer release of Ponyo the studio’s biggest hit ever stateside.
This is of course the Japanese trailer for Ponyo. But you quickly get the impression that Ponyo has a kids adventure theme more like Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro than Spirited Away. But we don’t know yet how the Disney/Pixar team will spin the story to better match US audiences.
