Bear Or Not: Tyler Labine

While watching the premiere of Reaper I became enchanted by one of the characters. It wasn’t the main character, Sam Oliver. It was his sidekick, Bert “Sock” Wysocki played by Tyler Labine.

He’s stocky, if not chubby. With his trademark “high hair” and a perpetually fuzzy chin, Tyler has many unique bear qualities about him. But is he Bear or Not?

Tyler Labine was born in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. In his early childhood, his family moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, and it was there, 16 years ago, that Tyler began his acting career in a local theater production.

Here’s Tyler as Bert “Sock” Wysocki on Reaper. What’s with all the horizontal stripes? Were they trying to accentuate his chubbiness? Maybe so.

After his work in local theater, Tyler was featured in smaller roles on various television series and movies of the week. He then landed one of the lead roles (Jimmy) on the UPN hit, “Breaker High.” From there he went on to work in some major feature films, including Robert Altman’s Trixie, Marine Life with Cybill Shepherd and Antitrust with Tim Robbins.

He loves this stuff.

Tyler also had the opportunity to work opposite musician David Bowie in the film Mr. Rice’s Secret. Labine recently enjoyed the challenge of portraying John Belushi on NBC’s “Behind the Camera: Mork & Mindy,” and will be seen in the upcoming features, “Letters,” with Ewen Bremner.

Loveable computer geek Lewis Henderson gets dumped. So he does what any young urban slacker would: work less and beat off more to internet porn. But with the added pressures of his buggy Y2K software and repeated romantic rejection, Lewis discovers that the website images no longer turn him on… and thus begins his strangely satisfying sexual relationship with the machine itself.
