Lone Star Saloon Changes Hands
Written by NetBear on November 17, 2009 – 11:50 am -Popular South of Market bar, The Lone Star Saloon, known to most as the quintessential bear hangout, has three new owners.

Tony Huerta, Bill Coulter and JJ Beck (seen above), have all been working in the San Francisco bar scene for many years. Most recently, all three have been managers at 440 Castro.
Tony, a San Francisco native and avid juggler, has also worked at the Midnight Sun, Red Grill and Moby Dick’s. Before that he lived and worked in Big Sur for two years.

Bill is from Washington DC. He moved to California 20 years ago and worked at the Roosterfish in Venice Beach before wisely moving to SF in 1996. He started at Trax bar that year and continued there for 13 years, concurrently working at 440 for the last four years.

JJ is originally from Stockton, and moved to SF in 1999. He has worked at Akbar in LA and Trax in the Height, before moving to 440 Castro.

The trio had been looking for a bar to purchase for about two years before hearing that the Lone Star might be available. This was an almost unbelievable prospect for them, as they viewed the venerable bar as something to aspire to, rather than a first business venture.
In the future they have plans for daily specials, parties and promotions, Saturday barbecues and refurbishing the upstairs community room for those seeking a meeting space.
