Zombies Ahead It was an early sign in 2009. These Zombies Ahead hackcidents seemed to set the tone for the year. There would be some winners and some losers. But there would also be some snoozers.

Coraline showed us a 3D world of wonder made with old school charm. Little did we know that Avatar would soon introduce us to the uber high-tech version.

Colton Ford Colton Ford let us look under his covers. There’s always some eye candy to be had when Colton is involved. But the critics weren’t as enamored with his album of cover songs.

Film star turned grizzly bearded musician Joaquin Phoenix hit new highs and new lows. But we’re not entirely sure which incidents were which. An Absolutely Fabulous remake turns out to be absolutely horrible.

Obamicon Obama-mania officially took over the nation. Everyone got their Obamicon done while one little HUGE gray hat caused a fashion storm. At Obama’s inauguration the new commander-in-chief broadcast the unifying message that We Are One. But the bad economy became a major challenge for the new world leader, though it turned out to be good for beards.

The popular Bearracuda events took off and brought the party to wild life in other cities across the United States. Bear Party took the big and furry guys from world-distributed magazine to live events and contests. Blowoff went from east coast phenomenon to west coast favorite, inspiring half of the group to move to foggy San Francisco.

Burly Jack from Lost The ABBA chicks denied the cat fights. But there was no denying that the Grizzly Jack from Lost set some bear hearts aflutter. We want to see Jack meet himself, like Jonathan Frakes in the Riker’s Beard video.

The Beard Song showed us that eating soup can be fun. But just don’t have as much fun as Sordid Lives or you’ll invoke the wrath of the religious right.

Varla Jean Merman Delicious drag diva Varla Jean Merman leaped into our hearts and plucked some bananas with her wit and larger than life stage personality. Then she stole the show on Project Runway, showing how a smart pantsuit can help show off your best asset.

The city of Portland said that it’s the beardiest city around while Beard Hats became the rage at Bearotic. But the beardy Wolverine movie really gave us something to howl about.

Heiskell Not your average redneck artist Heiskell released his album all about men, emphasizing that he loves the chubby guys and making us want to take the place of his guitar. Kendall was Rising Up to the occasion for the release of his new album Truth Changes.

Battlestar Galactica ended, but Caprica got off to a good start. The Oscars this year honored Sean Penn for his role as gay activist Harvey Milk in the movie Milk.

Matt Light Sexy Dance Football hottie Matt Light did a little dance for Sobe and all the collective bear jaws around the world dropped to the floor to say, “WOOOOOOF.” Steve Wozniak does some Dancing With The Stars and has every geek in the nation rooting for him.

The Bear Sleeping Bag created a new meaning for the phrase “Get In My Belly” and Alec Baldwin rubs his Wii for some big coin.

Matt Alber Openly gay singer and confirmed cutie Matt Alber brought romance back in a big way with his passionate album full of love inspired crooning and melodies.

Everyone was uttering the phrase, “Save the Cheerleader, Save the World” after watching the Heroes series. Everyone went ga-ga for the new Star Trek movie where Zachary Quinto moved from evil Silar in Heroes to a young and brash Spock.

Papaya Suzuki Papaya Suzuki and his Oyaji Dancers showed us that even “washed-up dads” can look snazzy and put on a good performance. Japan’s Walt Disney, Hayao Miyazaki, brought his last animated movie Ponyo to the United States. But some things just don’t translate well, even with the likes of Disney behind the effort.

Justin Timberlake put on his heels and unitard to do a parody of Beyonce’s Single Ladies music video on Saturday Night Live. Who knew that this simple routine would inspire a legion of imitators and become one of the biggest Internet meems of the year.

Where The Wild Things Are Spike Jonze brought the childhood classic, Where The Wild Things Are, to the big screen. In a series of previews, people are awe-struck by the use of indy rock and the fantastic beasts.

Keanu showed us his beardy side while Seth Rogen becomes a bear favorite.

Christian Bale Christian Bale makes a pretty good John Connor in Terminator Salvation. But it’s cyborg Sam Worthington that makes the world swoon. Ashton Kutcher scruffs it up.

The source of belly button lint is discovered. We just like looking at the furry bellies. Actor Jake Gyllenhaal shows off a bit of body hair in previews for the upcoming Prince Of Persia movie.

2009 was a big year! Watch for Part 2, coming soon.
