ejector Takes Electro Pop Glam To The Next Level
Written by NetBear on June 18, 2010 – 10:24 amTake one part dazzling electronic pop music a la Depeche Mode… Rope it down and get it wound-up real tight… Then add some beefy vocals from an enigmatic singer, all wrapped-up in spandex, leather and lace. What have you got? It’s ejector, one kick-ass glam group!

Ask anyone in San Francisco and they’ll tell you… Who’s the coolest, wildest new local synthpop band putting it all out there right now? They’ll tell you it’s ejector, an emerging duo that features the talents of Ben Holder and Ricky Terry. They combine fantastic, in-your-face visuals with sexy, deep vocals… All riding on a driving electronic soundtrack that evokes the best of bands from a bygone era.
While doing my thing in San Francisco, the music of one band kept popping-up in the music, conversation and club events that I frequent. Who was this ejector everyone was talking about? Little did I know!

Now in this gay world we live in, we have our own standards that go well beyond the typical lot. Having come out to Tim Curry belting out Sweet Transvestite in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, I guess I have a strong liking for people and characters that push the limits of what we accept as “normal.” Enter ejector. These two are my new glam pop heroes.

ejector likes to pile their makeup on thick and wear their latex skin tight. Ah! Now this is a look I can get into. They’re unapologetically outlandish, making me wonder just what their wardrobe closets look like.

Image is so very important in the modern music community. Just ask Lady Gaga about that. But people aren’t fooled for very long by dark eye shadow and some lacy underthings. They’ll be asking, “Where’s the beef?” For a music group, that means what do they sound like. In the case of ejector, you won’t be disappointed.

Are you a fan of Depeche Mode, Erasure, Alice Cooper, M (of Pop Muzik fame) and other bleeding edge pop music trailblazers? You may have found your next fix.

Here’s the group’s music video for First Sight of Red, directed by Billy Clift.
Ricky Terry‘s synthesized tracks evoke memories for me of listening to my first Depeche Mode tracks. Indeed, Ricky confirms that that British synth band is one of his primary influences. He’s not afraid to take his music solo. On their debut album, On The Pages, a solo track called Severed flows from being ambient into rhythm and energy. I imagined it as a crowd starter at the group’s next live concert. In Like You, Terry channels Depeche Mode horn sections, building the conflicted emotions into the song even before the vocals begin.
Ben Holder is the lead vocalist of the duo. He’s got a voice that is masculine, expressive and downright sexy. At times his voice reminds me of David Bowie. It intrigues and tantalizes. When he lowers his register he can really sound evil. And boys, this man can sing. I heard the group play at a live event out in the forest of the Russian River. Without even basic reverb, Ben sounded awesome and was pitch-perfect and spot on. And, yeah, there’s a little bit of Tim Curry Frankenfurter in that voice at times too. No wonder I’m hooked!
Watch the boys do their stuff with frickin’ lasers blazing as they perform live.

No matter how much I gush about a group, you’ve got to hear it for yourself, right? Well, here’s your chance to preview ejector‘s new album On The Pages, courtesy of Amazon.com:
