I was 14 years old in 1969 when Women In Love was first released. The newspapers and TV were buzzing with the news that there was a nude wrestling scene between Oliver Reed and Alan Bates. Little tantalizing clips of it were shown on TV and everyone was shocked and intrigued.

The movie was X-rated, meaning you had to be 18 to get in. I was a heavily built 14 year old and was already growing sideburns and a moustache so I could easily pass for 18. Sitting there in the darkness of the cinema I was rather bored by the intricate dialog of the movie, all I wanted was to see those two men naked together in front of that blazing fire and candle light.

Rainbow Flag Turns 30 Years Old Today

On June 25, 1978, Gilbert Baker debuted the first rainbow flag at the San Francisco Gay Freedom Day Celebration, the predecessor to the present-day San Francisco LGBT Pride Celebration & Parade.

The six color rainbow that is now synonymous with the LGBT movement used to contain pink and turquoise but was reduced from its original 8 colors for production purposes.

The original colors of the rainbow as Baker had originally designed it represent, respectively: sexuality, life, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony, and spirit. The dying and sewing of the first flag was done by Baker himself.
