Fantastically furry, masculine to a ‘T’ and just plain handsome, Sam ruled the roost in the gravelly-voiced, crooked smile, hairy bod department during those lean years.

Written by BignFuzzy on May 28, 2008 – 5:50 am -As Mr. French in The Family Affair, Sebastian Cabot was bearded, chunky and assertive. Long before Bears were called Bears we had Mr. French to admire on our TV screens.

ForeBears: My Crush On Squash And Alex Karras
Written by BignFuzzy on February 19, 2008 – 5:00 am -We were already aware of Alex Karras due to his NFL and wrestling careers and a brief acting role in Blazing Saddles as the strong slow witted Mongo.

But Alex broke into the ForeBears Hall of Fame when he appeared as Squash Bernstein, the gay bodyguard in the movie Victor Victoria. The mustache, the bull neck and beefy arms certainly got our attention. But what really impressed us was his non-stereotypical gay character. He was rough and tough, yet tender and looking for love. He sure brought out the cuddle bear in all of us.

ForeBears: Bud Spencer, The Big Man Of Many Roles
Written by BignFuzzy on February 14, 2008 – 5:00 am -In the early 80s while browsing a video store I stumbled upon a western movie called It’s Me…Tomorrow You! Now I’m not a lover of westerns but when I clocked the big hunk of bear on the cover I grabbed it quick!

The movie was a spaghetti western dubbed with English voiceovers. But I didn’t care. All I wanted to do was ogle Bud Spencer, real name Carlo Pedersoli, an import from Italy. A further browse through the video store revealed more Bud Spencer movies. Across the span of his career Bud appeared in every hot uniform a fantasizing bear could desire. He was a cowboy, a biker, a cop, a pirate but not in a campy Village People kinda way. Bud was brawny and gritty, he was believable. I *SO* wanted him to pull me over, let me ride bitch ,or even raid my treasure chest!

ForeBears: Dan Haggerty Is Grizzly Adams
Written by BignFuzzy on January 26, 2008 – 12:38 pm -Before the Bear movement and the internet we had to find our bear icons wherever we could. We didn’t call them bears but we knew what we liked. No carefully coiffed, shaven or plucked men for us — we liked ‘em big, hirsute and blue collar. Any movie, TV show or sport might contain a hunky hairy man who could become the object of our desire and fantasies.
ForeBears is a new ongoing series at Bearotic documenting these rough ‘n tumble hunks who helped mold the Bear figure we so admire today. What better man to start the ForeBears series with than Dan Haggerty, a.k.a Grizzly Adams.

The 1974 movie The Life And Times Of Grizzly Adams spawned a 1977 TV series which ran for 39 hot ‘n furry episodes.
