Remembering Paul Newman
Written by NetBear on September 28, 2008 – 6:18 am -The world has lost one of the last great 20th century movie stars and leading men. Paul Newman died at his Westport, Connecticut home yesterday. He was 83.

Whether it was this image from the 2005 HBO movie Empire Falls, or his Butch Cassidy or his immortal Cool Hand Luke character, Paul Newman embodied the handsome, blue-eyed rebel we all remember.

Dirty Jobs’ Mike Rowe: Bear Or Not?
Written by NetBear on August 7, 2008 – 5:13 am -As fans of Discover Channel’s Dirty Jobs show will tell you, Mike Rowe is one gorgeous hunk of beefcake. At Bearotic we quite agree! Rowe has grown heterosexual men write him about their man-crushes.

It seems like more often than not Mike finds some excuse to take his shirt off in the show. He gets into the dirtiest situations but always seems to keep his cool. (Well, almost always…) With a beefy, furry body and a bearish sense of humor, we have to ask… Bear or Not?

ForeBears: Sam Elliott Full Of 70’s Furry Bear Goodness
Written by BignFuzzy on July 29, 2008 – 5:48 am -Hirsute men with good face fuzz were thin on the ground in the 70s. Times were hard for those who were looking for some hairy eye candy. Sam Elliott to the rescue!

Fantastically furry, masculine to a ‘T’ and just plain handsome, Sam ruled the roost in the gravelly-voiced, crooked smile, hairy bod department during those lean years.

James Robertson Justice — Classic Scottish Bear? Aye Lad, He Was!
Written by BignFuzzy on July 18, 2008 – 5:07 am -James Robertson Justice was another of those British actors that caught my eager young eye as I searched for manly men on TV and in film.

Of Scottish descent, James was born in London and had one of those more “proper” slightly clipped Public School English accents. But he delivered it in a loud assertive manner that made a young man think “Ooh, Daddy!”
With red hair, green eyes and a short stocky build, James’ beady-eyed stare and brusque nature made him perfect for the roles he played. Having ogled at him through various movies I began to notice a pattern emerging. Many scenes seemed to happen with James either in a bed or on one talking to a bed ridden person. Now, I wasn’t complaining. James could come and sit on my spread anytime he liked!

Alan Hale Jr. The Skipper With The Heavy Cargo Load
Written by BignFuzzy on July 8, 2008 – 5:40 am -I remember the first time I tuned in to the show Gilligan’s Island. It was another of those colorful and light pieces of entertainment so often served up to us on 60s TV. What caught my eye though was the Bluto-esque Skipper with his tubby, burly gruffness acting as a foil for the other skinny “pantywaist” type men in the show, and a definite Daddy figure for Gilligan.

The thought of being a castaway with Captain Skipper appealed greatly to my young gay fantasies… as long as there were no intruders that is…
See more Skipper…and we do mean ahem, MORE!

William Shatner Does Pulp With Common People
Written by BignFuzzy on July 5, 2008 – 5:38 am -I’ve always loved Britpop band Pulp ever since I was turned on to the 1995 album Different Class. On that album is the anthemic song entitled Common People, a heartfelt passionate number about an interaction between a spoiled over-privileged girl and a low income working class guy.

On William Shatner’s album Has Been he does a rendition of it that only Captain Kirk could do. Cheesy you say? Maybe, but I tell ya, this track ROCKS!

Oliver Reed & Alan Bates: Men In Love!
Written by BignFuzzy on July 1, 2008 – 5:52 am -I was 14 years old in 1969 when Women In Love was first released. The newspapers and TV were buzzing with the news that there was a nude wrestling scene between Oliver Reed and Alan Bates. Little tantalizing clips of it were shown on TV and everyone was shocked and intrigued.

The movie was X-rated, meaning you had to be 18 to get in. I was a heavily built 14 year old and was already growing sideburns and a moustache so I could easily pass for 18. Sitting there in the darkness of the cinema I was rather bored by the intricate dialog of the movie, all I wanted was to see those two men naked together in front of that blazing fire and candle light.

The Bear-volution Of Ilan Mitchell-Smith
Written by NetBear on June 22, 2008 – 4:48 pm -Not unlike his role in the 1985 teen classic Weird Science, the Bear-volution of actor Ilan Mitchell-Smith from geeky boy actor to manly bear is just shocking.

As a young man Ilan was a teen heart-throb gone geek. In Weird Science he played Wyatt, one of the two nerdy boys who can’t get a date so they decide to create a woman of their own. After ending his acting career, how do you think Ilan would look after Bear-volution?

Liev Schreiber In Cable Positive Spot
Written by NetBear on June 18, 2008 – 5:43 pm -I recently caught this spot by Cable Positive from their 2007 HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign on TV. I’m certainly not a media challenged bear. So where has this bit of fur been all this time?
It’s a serious message coming from a great actor. Recognize that handsome whiskered face? It’s Liev Schreiber, Mister Sabretooth himself. Grrrr…
