Fish On Jason Kibbey, Fluevog Sale, Where To Get Plaid, Plaid For Spring
Written by NetBear on February 1, 2010 – 3:59 pm -Interview with Jason Kibbey of PACT — Part 2
This is part two of a two part interview with Jason Kibbey, CEO & Co-founder of Berekely-based PACT Apparel Inc. Read part 1 here.
KF - Do you have other products in mind for PACT? (I know I’d like to see some nice, soft shirts and maybe some jammy-pants. Just saying.)
JK - We want to really lead with great underwear and perfect our ability to make and sell great underwear and then we’ll think about making more products. We only will make products the world needs, and we won’t make crap it doesn’t need. As an environmentalist, one of the reasons we got into the underwear business is that it is something that everyone needs (some of my extremely crunchy friends disagree…) and if you are going to buy it, why not buy it sustainably in a way that allows you to wear your values?

Did you know that as of January 19, 2010, the undergarment commonly referred to as the tighty-whitey will have been in production for 75 years? Seventy-five years.

Uncommon Protection
Last year the bounds of what is and is not an accessory for men got stretched a little as an ever-increasing number of us picked up and started carrying around various devices, gadgets and items of convenience. The way I see it is if you have something like a Flip video camera, mobile phone or e-reader on your person for part or all of your day, this thing, by default, is an accessory. As the market for accessories of this type grows, the market for accessories for your accessories grows, too.

Life is good sometimes. Every once in a while you find yourself with free tickets to the symphony, decent parking in Hayes Valley and enough time to not only go to the symphony but also to stop in to M.A.C. (Modern Appealing Clothing), at 387 Grove Street, for a visit with one of the proprietors, Ben Ospital. If you’re anything like me, this confluence of free symphony tickets, free time and an illuminating chat about fashion concepts and designer’s visions and theories, makes for a perfect night out.

PACT Underwear — A Product Review
A couple weeks ago you were introduced to PACT undergarments right here in this column. In that article you were treated to such tasty tidbits of information such as what their underwear is made from (95% Turkish organic cotton and 5% elastane) and why. You also may have learned that the people at PACT are dedicated to positive change in our world. The most important stuff in that article, though, at least as far as this column is concerned, is the underwear.

Fish On Raf Simons, Tasty Vegan Shoes, Glasses And Johnny Cupcakes
Written by NetBear on August 30, 2009 – 3:31 pm -Raf Simons is Shaping the Future
Raf Simons is shaping the future. With only the slightest nod to the past, a mere acknowledgment that something existed prior to his idea of what clothing for men should look like, Raf Simons is constructing a new foundation on which fresh new lines of clothing can be built. This is no small feat considering how closed-minded the world of men’s fashion tends to be.

Fish On Terri Nunn, Duckie Brown And Plaid
Written by NetBear on August 19, 2009 – 1:10 pm -Terri Nunn, DJ Rotten Robbie and the SF Menswear Examiner
Berlin played the Napa Town and Country Fair. The band was tight and Terri Nunn’s vocals were as strong as ever. When one attends such an event with the world famous DJ Rotten Robbie amazing things can happen. Rob ended up scoring backstage passes so we could have a little meet and greet with Terri Nunn. She was gracious and lovely. The man in the green Wuvable Oaf shirt and Goorin Bros. “Ass” hat, on the other hand, got a little tongue tied and red-faced. Oh well, such is life.

Duckie Brown is Serious
Fashion designers need to take chances, especially when it comes to clothing for men. Otherwise men’s ready to wear can be a bit on the safe and boring side. It takes a lot of imagination and a daring character to really create something different when all you have to work with is shirt, pants, shoes, lather, rinse, repeat. It is for this very reason that Duckie Brown, by New York designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver, is important.

Fish On Meggings, Back To School, Travel Mugs, Napa Wildcat, Wine Country Living
Written by NetBear on August 10, 2009 – 6:07 pm -Meggings: A Response
Every so often a fashion trend reemerges, is picked up by the media, and is immediately dismissed as silly. This seems to happen most often in regard to fashion for men. Most recently, New York Magazine blogger, Amy Odell, lobbed a lighthearted attack on what she so shortsightedly sees as recent development in the world of men’s clothing. However, her observation, assessment, and subsequent clever, yet carefully worded man-bash, couldn’t be more off base.

Fish On Bluetooth, Manscaping, Custom Jeans And Bathing Ape
Written by NetBear on August 3, 2009 – 1:51 pm -1 more 101 - the Bluetooth Headset
As essential as e-readers, uber-bento boxes, urban canteens or Androids have become, so too has the itty-bitty Bluetooth headset. These little devices have come a long way in a short time. Where once they were meant to be the be-all and end-all to the wire-tethered headset they instead were infuriating to operate and even worse to hear anything on. Nowadays, they actually work, and they work quite well, thank you.
