Bearotic Favorites From 2009, Part 1
Written by NetBear on January 1, 2010 – 4:09 pm -![]()
It was an early sign in 2009. These Zombies Ahead hackcidents seemed to set the tone for the year. There would be some winners and some losers. But there would also be some snoozers.
Coraline showed us a 3D world of wonder made with old school charm. Little did we know that Avatar would soon introduce us to the uber high-tech version.

Colton Ford let us look under his covers. There’s always some eye candy to be had when Colton is involved. But the critics weren’t as enamored with his album of cover songs.
Film star turned grizzly bearded musician Joaquin Phoenix hit new highs and new lows. But we’re not entirely sure which incidents were which. An Absolutely Fabulous remake turns out to be absolutely horrible.

Obama-mania officially took over the nation. Everyone got their Obamicon done while one little HUGE gray hat caused a fashion storm. At Obama’s inauguration the new commander-in-chief broadcast the unifying message that We Are One. But the bad economy became a major challenge for the new world leader, though it turned out to be good for beards.
The popular Bearracuda events took off and brought the party to wild life in other cities across the United States. Bear Party took the big and furry guys from world-distributed magazine to live events and contests. Blowoff went from east coast phenomenon to west coast favorite, inspiring half of the group to move to foggy San Francisco.

The ABBA chicks denied the cat fights. But there was no denying that the Grizzly Jack from Lost set some bear hearts aflutter. We want to see Jack meet himself, like Jonathan Frakes in the Riker’s Beard video.
The Beard Song showed us that eating soup can be fun. But just don’t have as much fun as Sordid Lives or you’ll invoke the wrath of the religious right.
See what else made 2009 a Bearotic year to remember…

Steve Wozniak Leaves Dancing With The Stars
Written by NetBear on March 31, 2009 – 9:42 pm -With all of the injuries he has sustained, it was only a matter of time. Tonight Apple co-founder and celebrity geek bear, Steve Wozniak, has been officially booted from Dancing With The Stars.

The judges razzed him and gave him some horribly low scores to voice their disgust. Like an overwhelmed life-support system, fans of Woz could only keep him alive on the show for so long. C’est la danse!

Out And About: Morrissey Strips, Wallace & Gromit Shop, Straight Guys Spooning, iPhone Skype, Gary Coleman Best, Woz + Steve-O
Written by NetBear on March 31, 2009 – 5:45 am -
Singer Morrissey might be turning 50 in May, but he’s still stripping for the fans.
Wallace & Gromit decide that it’s too far to walk to the supermarket. So they create a guided shopping trolley to do the work for them.
Straight guys spend the night spooning for all that they’re worth on Survivor.

Skype for iPhone will appear sometime Tuesday and allow you to make VoIP calls to friends and family all over the world. It should be available from the App Store for free.
The five breast best Gary Coleman films? I never heard of any of them. But they’re there!
Woz and Steve-O from Dancing With The Stars are hangin’ out together. Could this be a new “bromance” in the making?

Woz Wins Dance Off With Belinda — Bearly
Written by NetBear on March 18, 2009 – 11:09 am -On the first elimination show of Dancing With The Stars, a harsh American public decided that Belinda Carlisle and partner Jonathan Roberts would be the first to go. But not until after a dance-off with Steve Wozniak and partner Karina Smirnoff.

Steve worked the nerd-bear angle, coming out in horn rimmed glasses, high waist baggy pants and sneakers to do the Quickstep. He wrote in his blog about the injuries he was dealing with:
My left foot and right knee are my bad spots and both are acting up a bit but we only have one dance in a dress rehearsal and one live to go. Wish me luck. I will wish you smiles and appreciation. stay tuned to this channel!

Woz Breaks A Leg At Dance Practice
Written by NetBear on March 12, 2009 – 6:21 pm -What has Steve Wozniak’s dance partner, Karina Smirnoff, been doing to him?

Yesterday Woz left Dancing With The Stars practice with a big cast on one leg. It wasn’t apparent whether he had just twisted it or what. Maybe somebody forgot to tell him that it’s just showbiz talk for “good luck” when someone tells you to “break a leg.”
Nothing about this has been mentioned on Woz’s blog yet. Let’s hope the big guy can still compete.

Woz Tears It Up On Dancing With The Stars
Written by NetBear on March 12, 2009 – 11:24 am -Apple co-founder and honorary bear about town Steve Wozniak made his dancing debut on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars last Monday.

The former pseudo-boyfriend of Kathy Griffin didn’t score well with judge Bruno Tonioli, who said he was like a “teletubbie going mad at a gay pride parade.” But Woz had a quick response to that little dig in his blog:
It should be noted that Teletubbies aired for five years, had 365 episodes, and a #1 music single!
I’d take that as a compliment.

Kathy Griffin Shoots Her Woz With Bear Models
Written by NetBear on July 15, 2008 – 5:39 am -It’s well known that comedian Kathy Gifford Griffin loves “her gays.” So it was a natural that she’d get cozy with the bear community at some point. Shortly before she did a gig for IBR at the historic Castro Theater she did a photo shoot for A Bear’s Life Magazine that has been the talk of both Tinseltown and the blogosphere.

Looking like a piece of sushi all rolled-up in the bear flag, Griffin kept everyone at the photo shoot cutting-up. But guess who she dragged along to impress the bears? Apple co-founder, Kathy’s former boyfriend and billionaire bear Steve Wozniak.
